“APPRENTICE SWIMMER” CAMPAIGN CONTINUES TO SPREAD IN CAN THO: TAY DO STEEL CARES FROM COMMUNITY TO EMPLOYEES
After a successful kick-off in An Giang, the “Apprentice Swimmer” journey continued rolling and arrived in Can Tho – the central city of the watery Mekong Delta. With the message “For a Vietnam where no child drowns”, the program keeps bringing students, parents, and even workers practical, meaningful experiences filled with compassion and responsibility.
A lively atmosphere by the waters of the West
From early morning, the Military Region 9 Swimming Club was bustling with chatter and laughter. Hundreds of students aged 5 to 15 and their parents eagerly arrived to join the program. Having their adorable moments captured, taking part in fun mini-games, and receiving lovely gifts, the kids quickly blended into a cheerful and safe atmosphere.
Here, the children practiced basic swimming skills, how to float, how to breathe when facing unexpected situations, as well as how to react if they accidentally fell into a river or lake. Many parents expressed relief seeing their kids learn directly from swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien – who for many years brought pride to Vietnamese sports.
“In our riverine region, our biggest worry is that children can be in danger when playing near ponds and lakes. Today, watching them learn survival swimming skills and how to protect themselves, we feel happy and much more at ease.”
Local leadership: A program with practical significance
Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated at the event:
“Drowning is a constant danger for children, especially in the Mekong Delta with its many canals and rivers.
Bringing survival skills into children’s daily lives is absolutely essential. We appreciate the ‘Apprentice Swimmer’
initiative and hope the program can reach more schools and families.”
Steadfast companionship from Tay Do Steel
Behind the event was the thoughtful preparation of Tay Do Steel Co., Ltd. – a companion throughout the campaign. With a sense of social responsibility, the company carefully arranged equipment, gifts, skill handbooks, and staff to deliver a safe and effective program for the children.
Ms. Hoang Khanh Trang, representative of Tay Do Steel Co., Ltd., shared:
“Serving the community is always a top
priority for Tay Do Steel. At the same time, we pay special attention to the families of our staff and workers. When
employees’ children are equipped with safety skills, parents feel more reassured, and the children gain confidence
when playing around water. We hope the spirit of ‘safety first’ will spread from the community to every worker’s home.”
Different from the first rollout in An Giang, the program in Can Tho reserved a segment specifically for children of Tay Do Steel employees. The main goal was to help families bond, so parents could accompany their kids in practicing life skills, thereby spreading safety not only in the community but also within their own homes.
“Not only did our children learn, but we ourselves learned a lot as well. This is a very meaningful gift that the company offers to workers. From now on, we feel more confident about protecting our families when facing unexpected situations.”
Athlete Nguyen Thi Anh Vien: Swimming is a life skill
Getting into the water with the children, Anh Vien patiently guided them through each basic movement. For her, swimming is not only a sport but also an essential life skill.
“Knowing how to swim is the first step, but more important is maintaining calm and the ability to handle danger. I hope sessions like this will give the kids more confidence to live safely and happily with the rivers and waters of their homeland.”
The journey continues
At the end of the class, the radiant smiles of the students, the relief of parents, and the excitement of the workers were clear proof of the program’s effectiveness.
The “Apprentice Swimmer” in Can Tho not only provided knowledge to children but also extended its arms to Tay Do Steel’s workforce — those who are devoted every day to work, family, and community. The journey will continue to many more provinces and cities, carrying a shared aspiration: to build a safer Vietnam where children grow up healthy and confident amid the waterways of the Delta.
